The Burberry Spring/Summer 2016 Women swear Show

I. About the Clothing Brand

Early years, 19th century Burberry was founded in 1856 when 21-year-old Thomas Burberry, a former draper's apprentice, opened his own store in Basingstoke, Hampshire, England. By 1870, the business had established itself by focusing on the development of outdoors attire. In 1879, Burberry introduced in his brand the gabardine, a hardwearing, water-resistant yet breathable fabric, in which the yarn is waterproofed before weaving. "Burberry" was the original name, but then the company soon switched to using the name "Burberrys", after many customers from around the world began calling it "Burberrys of London". This name is still visible on many older Burberry products. In 1891, Burberry opened a shop in the Haymarket, London. 20th century Former Burberry headquarters on the Haymarket, built 1913 In 1901, the Burberry Equestrian Knight Logo was developed containing the Latin word "Prorsum", meaning forwards, and later registered it as a trademark in 1909. In 1911 they became the outfitters for Roald Amundsen, the first man to reach the South Pole, and Ernest Shackleton, who led a 1914 expedition to cross Antarctica. A Burberry gabardine jacket was worn by George Mallory on his attempt on Mount Everest in 1924.Adapted to meet the needs of military personnel, the "trench coat" was born during the First World War. After the war, the trench coat became popular with civilians. The iconic Burberry check has been in use since at least the 1920s, primarily as a lining in its trench coats.[5] Burberry also specially designed aviation garments. in 1937, A.E. Clouston and Betty Kirby-Green broke the world record for the fastest return flight from London to Cape Town in "The Burberry" plane – which was sponsored by the brand. Burberry was an independent family controlled company until 1955, when it was taken over by Great Universal Stores (GUS). Influences and rise to prominence Stars of the modern world began wearing the Burberrys brand. During the 1970s and 1980s, Burberrys signed agreements with worldwide manufacturers to produce complementary products to the existing British collection such as suits, trousers, shirts, sportswear, accessories, for men, ladies and children. These products, designed under the strict control of headquarters in London, were produced and distributed through independent retail stores worldwide as well as the Burberry stores, and contributed to the growth of the brand in sales and profits through to the late 90s, although the full extent of sales was not apparent in the parent company accounts since much was done through licensed agreements. The company had signed Lord Litchfield as photographer, Lord (Leonard) Wolfson was Chairman and Stanley Peacock OBE Managing Director. In 1998, Burberrys changed their marketing name to Burberry following the retirement of the aforementioned. 21st century Burberry Chicago flagship store on the Magnificent Mile, built in 2012. In May 2001, Christopher Bailey joined Burberry as creative director. However, between 2001 and 2005, Burberry became associated with "chav" and football hooligan culture. This change in the brand reputation was blamed on lower priced products, the proliferation of counterfeit goods adopting Burberry's trademark check pattern, as well as adoption by celebrities prominently identified with "chav" culture. The association with football hooliganism led to the wearing of Burberry check garments being banned at some venues. GUS divested its remaining interest in Burberry in December 2005. Burberry Group plc was initially floated on the London Stock Exchange in July 2002. In 2005, Sanyo-shokai was the Burberry ready-to-wear licence holder in Japan with retail value of €435 million. In 2006, Rose Marie Bravo, who as Chief Executive had led Burberry to mass market success through licensing, decided to retire. She was replaced by another American, Angela Ahrendts, who joined from Liz Claiborne in January 2006, and took up the position of CEO on 1 July 2006. Ahrendts and Bailey successfully turned around the then Chav-like reputation that the brand had acquired at the end of Bravo's tenure, by removing the brand's check-pattern from all but 10% of the company's products and buying out the Spanish franchise that was worth 20% of group revenues.Burberry first began selling online in the US, followed by the UK in October 2006, and the rest of the EU in 2007. Bailey became Chief Creative Officer in November 2009, whilst it was reported that during 2012 Ahrendts was the highest paid CEO in the UK, making £16.9m, the first time an English woman has held that title. In October 2013, it was announced that Ahrendts would take up the position of Senior Vice President of retail and online at Apple, Inc. from April 2014, and be replaced as CEO by Bailey. During her tenure, sales increased to over £2 billion, and shares gained more than threefold to £7 billion. Although Burberry promotes its British connection, according to The Guardian, a British national daily newspaper, as of July 2012, Burberry maintains two production facilities in Great Britain, one in Castleford producing raincoats, and one in Keighley. A Burberry store in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong In spring 2014, Christopher Bailey became CEO of Burberry and retained the role as chief creative officer. His basic salary is £1.1m, with total compensation of up to £10m a year depending on sales targets being met. In July 2016, it was announced that Céline boss Marco Gobbetti will takeover as CEO of the FTSE 100 Company, while Christopher Bailey will become Creative Director and President. Anusha Couttigane, senior fashion analyst at Kantar Retail, said that Mr Bailey excelled on product, but "pricing strategies, maximising profitability and thoroughly reviewing every aspect of the business" were not his main strengths.

III. My Reaction

A. Reaction Point - fashion design
  • using fabrics of different colors, textures, and weights to create garments that people wear
  • BURBERRY PRORSUM, BURBERRY LONDON, BURBERRY BRIT, BURBERRY BLUE LABEL etc...
  • Burberry's has the various brands. There is a feature in each. For example there is something on the golf relation as much as something first-class most expensive, something young people are cheap relatively and can take up, too, the one which targetted a lady and for children.

B. Reaction Point - color combination
  • how various colors are combined within one outfit
  • BURBERRY Check
  • Burberry check is also a brand name of Burberry's company which is a raincoat manufacturer by check patterns which consist of a black white red line at the place by the camel color.
Originally, the pattern used for a trench coat of Burberry's as a lining in 1924.
The Burberry's classic check and the hay market check were called, were an arrangement with the pattern called country Tartan and were chosen by solicitation.

C. Reaction Point - apparel
  • clothing that serves as dress or decoration
  • BURBERRY
  • Since Burberry's opens its store for the first time, the time of 150 years has passed. An image as a British wind springs by high quality when hearing Burberry's, there are a lot of people. Burberry's offers important information to the product which left it for the design world for all Burberry's collections, and moreover it'll be a hint of product development.
Burberry's knows the name as the luxury brand with a distribution channel in world all part today.

D. My General Opinion
It had not been also performed that a fashion show was seen, I thought this picture was seen, and it was very fascinating. The models' walking was very beautiful and attractive.
This fashion show which raises the image the brand has to the full is wonderful. I myself came to want clothes of Burberry's, shoes and an accessary, too.
A lot of blogs were made through this session, but this time was most difficult. But it was utilized, shown and insisted to the full that they came so far.

My Featured Film

ANNIE

I. About the Film
In Harlem, Manhattan Island, N.Y.C, Annie Bennett lives in foster care with several other girls in the care of Colleen Hannigan, a bitter former singer who spends her days drinking or trying to find a husband. Annie spends Fridays waiting outside Domoni's restaurant, believing her parents will come for her because a note written on a receipt from Domoni's says they would return. When a city inspector checks on Hannigan's treatment of the girls, Annie takes advantage of the situation; she manages to copy her social security number from his clipboard and heads off to get her information. Annie learns that there's nothing more about her than what she already knows.

Trying to save a Shiba Inu from bullies, Annie is nearly run over; however, she is saved by William Stacks, a germaphobe cell phone mogul running for mayor. Annie's rescue goes viral on the internet, boosting Stacks popularity; per suggestion of Stacks' campaign manager Guy Danlily, Annie moves in with Stacks to boost his popularity further. Annie enjoys her new surroundings, befriending Stacks' assistant Grace Farrell. Annie also gets to adopt the stray dog from before, naming her Sandy. Bonding with Annie, Stacks reveals that he had humble beginnings in Queens; he never really knew his father due to his work hours, but believed he could understand him if he worked just as hard. Annie also helps Grace and Stacks begin realizing that they like each other romantically.

Per Annie's request, Stacks takes her and her friends in Hannigan's foster care to see the premiere of MoonQuake Lake. Stacks is uninterested in the movie at first, but soon becomes a major fan, along with Grace. Per Annie and Grace's insistence, Stacks joins in the after-movie party. After returning her friends home, Annie shows Grace her Friday routine of waiting to see if her parents will return; Grace sympathizes, agreeing to keep this a secret from Stacks. At Hannigan's, the girls accidentally wake her; Hannigan snaps at them, saying rich people aren't nice, and will ditch anyone they don't like anymore (recalling her own past). Slightly hungover, she laments about her situation of foster kids and her desire to reclaim stardom.

When Annie is asked to read a speech during a charity event, she runs out, revealing that she doesn't know how to read (despite being 10 years old and going to school). Stacks decides to get her a special-ed teacher, but Guy decides that Annie will only hinder Stacks' campaign as his popularity isn't improving anymore. Teaming up with Hannigan, Guy plans to have imposters claim Annie as their daughter to boost Stacks popularity to the point where he wins; Guy will then share his payment with Hannigan. However, Guy plans to dump Annie back into the system after the election, not caring about her well-being. By the time Hannigan has second thoughts, Annie has already been kidnapped by the imposters; Hannigan tells Stacks about the plan, getting Guy fired. Stacks, Grace, Hannigan and the girls board Stacks' helicopter; aided by the police, they chase the getaway car into the park. Annie, thinking Stacks arranged this (due to the kidnappers believing Stacks, not Guy, paid them,), .Stacks, to prove his innocence, announces to the press that he quits the mayoral race; Annie then helps Grace and Stacks admit their love. All three dance and sing happily.

Later, Annie announces the opening of the "Stacks Youth Education Facility", to help children like herself, who couldn't read. Everyone sings Annie's Tomorrow; unhumorously, Hannigan attempts to continue singing after the song is done, only to receive stares that cue her to stop.

My Featured Novel

A Christmas Carol

by  Charles Dickens

I. About the Novel
「クリスマスキャロル」の画像検索結果
A Christmas Carol in Prose, Being a Ghost-Story of Christmas, commonly known as A Christmas Carol, is a novella by Charles Dickens, first published in London by Chapman & Hall on 19 December 1843. The novella met with instant success and critical acclaim. A Christmas Carol tells the story of a bitter old miser named Ebenezer Scrooge and his transformation into a gentler, kindlier man after visitations by the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley and the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come.

The book was written at a time when the British were examining and exploring Christmas traditions from the past as well as new customs such as Christmas cards and Christmas trees. Carol singing took a new lease of life during this time. Dickens' sources for the tale appear to be many and varied, but are, principally, the humiliating experiences of his childhood, his sympathy for the poor, and various Christmas stories and fairy tales.

A Christmas Carol remains popular—having never been out of print—and has been adapted many times to film, stage, opera, and other media.

III. About the Author
Charles Dickens
Charles John Huffam Dickens (7 February 1812 – 9 June 1870) was an English writer and social critic. He created some of the world's best-known fictional characters and is regarded as the greatest novelist of the Victorian era. His works enjoyed unprecedented popularity during his lifetime, and by the twentieth century critics and scholars had recognised him as a literary genius. His novels and short stories enjoy lasting popularity.

Born in Portsmouth, Dickens left school to work in a factory when his father was incarcerated in a debtors' prison. Despite his lack of formal education, he edited a weekly journal for 20 years, wrote 15 novels, five novellas, hundreds of short stories and non-fiction articles, lectured and performed extensively, was an indefatigable letter writer, and campaigned vigorously for children's rights, education, and other social reforms.

Dickens's literary success began with the 1836 serial publication of The Pickwick Papers. Within a few years he had become an international literary celebrity, famous for his humour, satire, and keen observation of character and society. His novels, most published in monthly or weekly instalments, pioneered the serial publication of narrative fiction, which became the dominant Victorian mode for novel publication. The instalment format allowed Dickens to evaluate his audience's reaction, and he often modified his plot and character development based on such feedback. For example, when his wife's chiropodist expressed distress at the way Miss Mowcher in David Copperfield seemed to reflect her disabilities, Dickens improved the character with positive features. His plots were carefully constructed, and he often wove elements from topical events into his narratives. Masses of the illiterate poor chipped in ha'pennies to have each new monthly episode read to them, opening up and inspiring a new class of readers.

Dickens was regarded as the literary colossus of his age. His 1843 novella, A Christmas Carol, remains popular and continues to inspire adaptations in every artistic genre. Oliver Twist and Great Expectations are also frequently adapted, and, like many of his novels, evoke images of early Victorian London. His 1859 novel, A Tale of Two Cities, set in London and Paris, is his best-known work of historical fiction. Dickens's creative genius has been praised by fellow writers—from Leo Tolstoy to George Orwell and G. K. Chesterton—for its realism, comedy, prose style, unique characterisations, and social criticism. On the other hand, Oscar Wilde, Henry James, and Virginia Woolf complained of a lack of psychological depth, loose writing, and a vein of saccharine sentimentalism. The term Dickensian is used to describe something that is reminiscent of Dickens and his writings, such as poor social conditions or comically repulsive characters.

IV. My Reaction

A. Reaction Point -symbolism象徴性、象徴的表現)
  • The greater or deeper meaning of a character, object, setting or event in a story
  • The three spirit-guides, along with each of their tales, carry out a thematic function--the Ghost of Christmas Past, with his glowing head, represents memory
  • The Ghost of Christmas Present represents charity, empathy, and the Christmas spirit; and the reaper-like Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come represents the fear of death. Scrooge, with his Bah! Humbug! attitude, embodies all that dampens Christmas spirit--greed, selfishness, indifference, and a lack of consideration for one's fellow man.

B. Reaction Point -setting(設定、背景、場所
  • the time, place and/or situation in which a story takes place
  • Scrooge begins to break through his emotional barricade in Stave Three as he expresses pity for Tiny Tim.
  • The reader, upon hearing the usually uncaring miser inquire into Tim's fate, begins to believe Scrooge has a chance at salvation. Scrooge's path to redemption culminates with his figurative "adoption" of Tiny Tim, acting as "a second father" to the little boy.

C. Reaction Point -protagonist メインキャラクター
  • Scrooge
  • The miserly owner of a London counting-house, a nineteenth century term for an accountant's office. The three spirits of Christmas visit the stodgy bean-counter in hopes of reversing Scrooge's greedy, cold-heart approach to life.

D. My General Opinion

I think that the theme of Christmas Carol is in what we call what should do to be happy.
It is interesting and convincing for the story that a stubborn man spans three nights, led by the spirit of Christmas, and shows the miserable figure of the past, the present, and the future objectively.
What I wanted to convey through "A Christmas Carol" is clear, I thank that living with the spirit of Christianity.
This "A Christmas Carol" imagines a very dark and cold winter at the beginning. And in the scene where the three spirits appear, I imagined a very sad and frightening winter.
However, at the end when Scrooge is surrounded by Cratchit and his family, imagine a warm and friendly winter.
I think that this is the author's Dickens most wanted to tell.

My Featured Song

Worth Fighting For by城田優 feat. HOWIE D

No necesito nada
Solamente a ti solamente tu amor

Oh, oh-it came so quickly, love knocked me over
And now that I've found it, there's no letting go
I got you, baby as long as you got me
Just know it's gonna get harder, before it gets easy

We can go through the storm, weather the pain
I'm always right here (Always right here)
They can tear down the walls, break down your pride
I'm always right here (Cause)

I'd rather lose my life than lose your love
I 'd rather go to war than give you up
You're worth fighting for
You're worth fighting for
And I really do not know what's ahead
But I'll take my chance at swinging
You're worth fighting for
You're worth fighting for

I'll be your strongest soldier, I'll protect you
And if I'm wounded, you better be there taking care of me
Oh, People say it's rare to have what we share
That's why I put all of me into this

We can go through the storm, weather the pain
I'm always right here (Always right here)
They can tear down the walls, break down your pride
I'm always right here (Cause)

I'd rather lose my life than lose your love
I'd rather go to war than give you up
You're worth fighting for
You're worth fighting for
And I really do not know what's ahead
But I'll take my chance at swinging
You're worth fighting for
You're worth fighting for

Once in a lifetime we find a mission and a cause
Something to lift us above it all
And so my course of action's very clear
Now victory is in sight
I am gonna treat you right

I'd rather lose my life than lose your love
I'd rather go to war than give you up
You're worth fighting for
You're worth fighting for
And I really do not know what's ahead
But I'll take my chance at swinging
You're worth fighting for
You're worth fighting for

I'd rather lose my life than lose your love
I'd rather go to war than give you up
You're worth fighting for
You're worth fighting for
And I really do not know what's ahead
But I'll take my chance at swinging
You're worth fighting for
You're worth fighting for
